ST. LOUIS @ WASHINGTON | 1/14 | 7:00 PM EST
The Central Division meets the Metro Division this evening as the St Louis Blues rumble with the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The Blues enter this contest off a 3-1 road win over the Stars, while the Capitals are off a 2-1 OT loss to the Blue Jackets at home.
The St Louis Blues have had their struggles this year, but they have been playing a bit better of late as they come in having won three of their last four games. Their play in the crease has been key of late as they have allowed just five goals over their last four games and 13 goals over their last seven games.
The Washington Capitals had been one of the hottest teams in the league, but they have cooled off and have gone just 3-4 over their last seven games. They had a three-game winning streak going, but the Blue Jackets came to town and ended it with a 2-1 OT win. The Caps fell down 1-0 just 1:00 into the game and it stayed that way until they tied it with just 1:06 left in regulation.
One of the Eastern Conference’s strongest squads, the Washington Capitals, host one of the West’s weakest in the St. Louis Blues on Monday. Not surprisingly, my trusty simulations indicate the Caps are taking this decision nearly three-quarters of the time. With Alex Ovechkin leading the NHL with 32 goals and the Blues manning less-than-stellar goaltending, my projections show Washington winning this game by an average of nearly 1.5 goals. Don’t overthink it, back the Caps.
